With a heavy heart, we must report the passing of Qynton Bryant p.k.a. SmokyDB. The Westside Atlanta native was a husband, father, brother, son, friend and one hell of an emcee. When we say emcee, we mean that in every way. We first met Smoky back in 2014 while working on the Winning Team’s #GoodMorningMsBadu project. The project featured “The Message” serving as his first official video under SmokyDB.
After years of honing his craft, Smoky would release his debut album, Kangols & Gold Feelings in 2018. The 13-track LP featured fellow Winning Team members, J-Coop, TRUTH Hayes, Spooks McGhie, and production from Introspective Minds and Last Name Good.
Smoky had a powerful voice that people would compare to Scarface. It wasn’t until a couple of months ago, that we learned he was one of his idols and shaped him as an emcee.
If you were ever blessed to see Smoky hit the stage, then you already know high energy, passion, and grit were on the menu. This guy loved performing and showed it every time. From performing on Edgewood in Atlanta to hitting stages in Tulsa, Oklahoma with Paid In Amerikkka, Smoky left his mark with two words…Go Smooooky!
The beauty of music is that a legacy can live on forever. SmokyDB you will be missed, but guarantee we will be playing your music for a lifetime. R.I.P. brother.
